This election cycle has been guided by scandals and the constant berating of Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump. It has included issues such as Illegal Immigration, the Economy, and the War on Terror. As many of you may know it also has exposed a racial divide this nation has been struggling with for a long time. What you may not know is that this racial divide is primarily based on false narratives and inconsistent reporting from the main stream media outlets.
Chicago is one of the largest cities in the country with a wide range of diversity but when you think about racial divide, look no further. A city that I once called home and love because of it being a melting pot of culture and in my opinion the greatest source for great food like Chicago style pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, and gyros; it is also known for its high level of violence. According to a study recently released by the New York University’s Brennan Center the city of Chicago is responsible for nearly half of the 13% increase in the murder rate for the country as a whole.
Information like this is often overlooked and downplayed because of police involved shootings such as the Tulsa shooting of Terrence Cruthcher and the Charlotte shooting of Keith Scott. While I find any loss of life troubling I find it to be unfair to politicize a select few and completely abandon others. The city of Chicago to date has amassed 524 murders so far this year with August being considered the deadliest month recorded for homicides in the city in 20 years.
Speaking with a source earlier today I was informed about the mood and the terror felt by the local residents and how many people there are losing hope. This individual named several personal experiences of either knowing the individuals that was murdered or being closely acquainted with the parents of the individuals that were murdered. It’s disheartening to hear and it should be a moral outrage to every American across to the nation.
Contrary to popular belief these people don’t have a real voice because those who claim to stand up for them lack the ability to truthfully tell the American people what’s actually transpiring in these communities. This is not just happening in Chicago but inner cities everywhere including Charlotte which is also the home of the Keith Scott shooting, and is listed along with Chicago as the two cities with the highest uptick in violent crime according to that same Brennan Center study. We desperately need real change and atrocities like this must be discussed to achieve that said change, but not from a racial aspect but from a “We Are All Americans” aspect.
